AI Bookkeeping Services in SF— Automate Your Books

You're building the future in the Bay Area. Your bookkeeping shouldn't feel like it's from the past. Upload your documents, let AI handle the categorization, and get investor-ready financials every month. Plans from $249/mo.

Why SF business owners are drowning in spreadsheets

Investor-ready financials are non-negotiable

Your VC wants monthly P&L, burn rate, and runway projections. If your books are 2 months behind, that conversation gets awkward fast.

California + SF tax double whammy

State income tax up to 13.3%, $800 franchise tax, SF Gross Receipts Tax, and district-level sales tax. Miss any of these and you're paying penalties.

SaaS revenue recognition is complex

Annual contracts, monthly subscriptions, usage-based billing, refunds — recognizing revenue correctly under ASC 606 requires precision your spreadsheet can't deliver.

SF bookkeepers are the most expensive in the US

Local bookkeepers charge $40-60/hour. At 20 hours a month, that's $800-$1,200 — before software costs. And good luck finding one who understands SaaS metrics.

SF Tax Mechanics

SF's tax structure is unique. We track gross receipts against the thresholds that matter.

San Francisco taxes gross receipts — not just net income — and layers several city-specific levies on top of California's regime. Here's what actually applies.

SF Gross Receipts Tax

A progressive tax on a business's gross receipts attributable to San Francisco activity, with rates that vary by business activity category (services, retail, manufacturing, real estate, financial services, etc.) and currently top out around 0.975% for the highest-rate categories at the highest receipts tiers. The registration threshold has been $2.19M in gross receipts; businesses below it are generally exempt. We track your rolling gross receipts against the threshold so you don't get caught unregistered, and we categorize your activity so the right rate table applies.

SF Homelessness Gross Receipts Tax

An additional gross receipts tax layered on top of the main GRT for businesses with gross receipts above $50 million, with rates of roughly 0.175%–0.69% depending on activity category. Applies to a much smaller set of operators, but for those who qualify, it's an easy filing to miss in the first year it kicks in.

SF Payroll Expense Tax

Historically, SF charged 1.5% on payroll expense attributable to work performed in San Francisco. The city has been phasing this tax out in favor of the Gross Receipts Tax, but transitional rules and supplemental business taxes (including the Commercial Rents Tax and Overpaid Executive Gross Receipts Tax) still apply to specific subsets of businesses. We check each filing cycle for which mechanic applies to your business.

SF Business Registration Fee

An annual fee that every SF business pays, tiered by gross receipts. It's small relative to the GRT but it's a legal requirement to operate and late registration penalties stack. We schedule it so the renewal never gets missed.

Note: SF tax thresholds and rates change regularly. We verify against the SF Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector before each filing so the math is current.
